The English application: Curriculum vitae

Curriculum vitae: Education/academic background

Education and academic background

Start with the last and most recent educational training. List your educational experiences in reverse chronological order.

Academic education

Among the most important details is the name of the university, college or university of applied science that you attended.

College or University of Applied Science

Your field of study and focus area must be included, along with the title of your thesis and the final grade.

Further education

The concept of ‘less is more’ applies here as well. Not all further trainings need be listed, only those associated with the job in question. Likewise, primary education does not belong in the CV; it only takes up unnecessary space.

Professional training

If you have completed a professional training and this is of relevance for the vacancy, add it to your academic background. Provide the name of the training organization, the location, the job for which you were trained and the final grade.

Schooling

At the end, mention your highest school diploma. Normally, this would be a high school or secondary school diploma. In addition to the diploma, mention the school's name, the location and your final grade. Possible priorities or main courses may also be relevant for the application under certain circumstances.

Short and sweet

The statement of your academic education contains:
  • Name of the facility, city and country
  • Field of study and focus
  • Title of the final degree
  • Title of the thesis
  • Final grade
Further trainings may be listed according to the following scheme only if relevant:
  • Name of the facility, city and country
  • Title of the training
  • Title of the final degree (for example, certificate)
  • Final grade
If you have completed a professional training programme, add the following to the list as well:
  • Name of the company, city and country
  • Title of the professional training programme
  • Title of the final degree (for example, Certificate of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce)
  • Final grade

Primary education need not be listed in the CV, but your highest school diploma must find mention. The latter is usually a high school or secondary school diploma. Mention the following details in this respect:

  • School name, city, country
  • Title of the final degree (for example, A-levels)
  • Final grade
